The following recap is written from the memory of fans in attendance at Otakon 2007. Many corrections have been made, but I'm sure, unfortunately, that some things have still been left out.

Otakon 2007: Q&A
Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Uno: My name is Misako Uno.
Ito: My name is Chiaki Ito.
Urata: Urata Naoya desu. Doumo.
Atae: Ata--
[Shinjiro wasn't being picked up by his mic, so he tried a couple of short "Ah"s and tapped it a bit]
Urata: [Slides his mic over to Shinjiro]
Atae: [Nods thankfully at Urata] Atae Shinjiro desu, yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
Nissy: I am Takahiro Nishijima.
Hidaka: My name is Mitsuhiro Hidaka.
Sueyoshi: I am Sueyoshi Shuta.

The con staff went about fixing the mic problem, and the translator took this time to inform us that in the interest of saving time, we should avoid asking questions for all members to answer seperately, and that in these cases one representative from the group would answer. The panel commenced.

Fan: Before you debuted with avex in 2005, what other avex artists did you like?
Atae: m.o.v.e
Hidaka: Actually, m.o.v.e’s motsu-san? I’m working with him in a band. It’s called Mother Ninja, please look forward to it!

Fan: Between America and Japan, which do you prefer? And what’s your favorite American thing?
Uno: America is very different from Japan, so it’s hard to choose, but we’re enjoying our time in America. We were especially excited about the performance.

Fan: Why didn’t Shinchan do "maido" yesterday?
[The translator and Shinjiro both seemed confused by this question, and it took an immitation of what she was talking about from the fan before they got it]
Atae: I didn't think anyone would understand, because it's a Japanese thing.

Fan: Were you surprised at the number of people attending the concert yesterday?
Nissy: Yes, it’s our first time performing in America, so it’s hard to believe we had so many people waiting to see us.

Fan: What’s your favorite American rock band?
Sueyoshi: Sum 41
Hidaka: Green Day
Atae: All of them?

Fan: Would you come back to Baltimore again?
Hidaka & Nissy: Absolutely!

Fan: You guys started as backup dancers, did you ever expect to get this far?
Uno: We never thought we’d be performing in the US.

Fan: What’s your favorite food?
Atae: Tempura
Urata: Udon.
Nissy: Pizza!
[The crowd had a very positive reaction to this, so he stood and put his arms up in the air, grinning]
Hidaka: Beeeeeeeef.
Sueyoshi: Chiiiken.
Nissy: Meat!
Sueyoshi: It's not what we say. It's how we say it.
Ito: [still takes the question seriously] Misoniko udon. It’s a Nagoya specialty.
Uno: Cheeeeese!

Fan: Were you fans of Kamen Rider before you did Climax Jump?
Nissy: You know Kamen Rider DEN-O?
Fan: [wearing the Kamen Rider belt, moves his pass over it and "Sword form" sounds from it]
AAA: [applauds]
Sueyoshi: Ooh!
Fan: [calls out "Climax daze!"]
AAA: [applauds and laughs]
Fan: [calls out "henshin!"]
AAA: [applauds]

Fan: Let me say I’m really glad you came to the US. What I want to know is, is it okay to request a voice from Nishijima?
[Again the translator and Nissy both seemed to have trouble understanding the question. Eventually it was understood as a request for Nissy to perform his transformation from Delicious Gakuin]
Nissy: Ah, okay. [gives and okay sign and stands, but laughs and sits back down]
Atae: [elbowing Nissy]
Nissy: [stands again, doing the line and pose, and sits back down laughing] So embarassing..

Nissy: We have a question for you. How do you know about Delicious Gakuin?
Atae: Is it airing on TV here?
[No one in the crowd wanted to admit to downloading it, so the issue seemed to go unresolved]

Fan: Have you eaten Baltimore crabs, and how do you like Baltimore so far?
Atae: We’ve been eating them everyday!
Urata: It seems like a nice place to live.

Fan: Yesterday, during the autograph session, did you like our dance?
Hidaka: Yes, very much!

Fan: [speaks inaudibly]
Translator: The mic goes in front of your face, you know.
Fan: Can we eat with you?
AAA: [laughter]
Translator: You’re going to have to ask their management that.

Fan: This question is more for the two girls - how is it like traveling with 5 guys?
Uno: I wish they could understand ladies first.
Urata: I wish they would act more ladylike.
Translator: If they disband, it’s going to be your fault.

Fan: How long did you practice for the concert yesterday?
Urata: One day.

Fan: Are there any other artists you want to do a collaboration with?
Hidaka: m.o.v.e! [in reference to Mother Ninja which he had mentioned earlier] Also, more tokusatsu shows.
Sueyoshi: Naruto! [clearly trying to please the anime convention audience]
Nissy: Ne-Yo.
Sueyoshi: Omarion.
Nissy: EXILE!

Fan: What were your feelings as you were riding in the car on your way to Baltimore?
Nissy: Car?
Atae: It was an airplane.
Uno: We were thinking that it's a really long flight.

Fan: What was the most fun video to film?
Uno: Get CHU!

Fan: My question is for Misako. You were in Grudge 2, do you plan to star in any more Hollywood movies?
[The fan asked this in Japanese and referred to The Grudge 2 as Ju-on 2, which is a completely seperate movie. This caused some confusion and it took a while to make Misako understand the question]
Uno: I plan on doing more Hollywood movies.

Fan: You covered a song from High School Musical, are you fans of the movie?
Uno: We watched the DVD and fell in love with it.
Hidaka: Vanessa Hudgens is cute!

Fan: Yesterday you mentioned you liked Dragonball Z and One Piece. Are there any other anime you guys like?
Nissy: Rurouni Kenshin. HunterxHunter.
Urata: One Piece.
Atae: Bleach. Yu Yu Hakusho.
Ito: Sailormoon.
Uno: Sailormoon.
Hidaka: Captain Tsubasa.

Fan: Is there any other American hotspot you’d like to visit?
Sueyoshi: LA.
Hidaka: New York. I want to see Queens.
Atae: Six Flags! Anywhere.

Fan: Yesterday was Friday, why didn’t you perform Friday Party?
Ito: We're sorry.

Fan: What’s your favorite American word?
Sueyoshi: What's up?
Hidaka: Ballin’
[He pronounced this more like "boring" and it took him repeating it a few times to understand]
Nissy: Love!
Atae: I love you.
Ito: Angel.
Urata: Smile.
Uno: Dream.

Fan: Okay, this is for the guy second from the left.
[There was some confusion, but Hidaka pointed to himself and was confirmed as the subject of the question]
Fan: I go to the University of Miami, so I wondered why are you wearing a University of Miami T-shirt?
Hidaka: I found it at a shop, and it was just the best design there.

Fan: This question is for the two girls? What clothing brands do you like?
Uno: Forever 21.
Ito: Anything is fine with me.

Fan: If you ever perform here in America again, where would it be?
Hidaka: Baltimore.

Fan: I’m going to be in Japan next year, so I was wondering what your schedule was?
Uno: In September, we’ll be performing in Tokyo at the Nihon Budokan.
Fan: Are tickets sold out yet?
Urata: No, not yet.

Fan: Why did you pick "Attack All Around" as the group name?
Hidaka: By attack, we mean to attack our fans with our enthusiasm. We don't actually mean we want to attack people.

Fan: Is there a Japanese artist you all like?
Atae: EXILE.

At this point the panel was interrupted briefly for the staff to make an announcement about the AAA autograph signing that was to follow the panel moving to another location, which the translator already had a note to make at the end of the panel, thus wasting valuable Q&A time.

Fan: My question is for Urata-san. What makes you the leader and what are your duties as leader?
Urata: I don't do anything. I'm just the leader because I'm the oldest.

Fan: Yesterday I noticed you had a lot of martial arts influence in your dance moves. Do you like martial arts or martial arts movies?
Nissy: I like Jet Li!
Sueyoshi: I practiced karate for 10 years.

Fan: I lived in Aomori for a while and I was wondering if you’ve ever been there and what you think about it?
Urata: Actually, our manager is from Aomori, so we’ve been there a couple of times. The food is good and we had fun at the hot springs.

Fan: Who among you do you think is the funniest member?
AAA: Shuta!
Sueyoshi: [raises his hands in a victory pose]

Fan: You guys all have pets, do you ever get together and let them play with each other?
Atae: We all live in different places, so it's not really possible.
Nissy: But it’d be fun!
Crowd: Awwwwwwwww.
Nissy & Atae: Awwwwwwwww.
